The featured product (picture inset) is the famous "SAMOD", local term for soft broom, produced with an export quality, by the Manito Women's Organization. The organization started as individual "Samod" producers making a high-quality yet unmarked and un-branded 'Samod" as a 'backyard type' livelihood which is being bought by traders from as far as Region 1, CAR and Metro Manila. The downside however, as explained by the beneficairies, since it is unbranded, the traders would label Manito's "Samod" as the trader's own produce. With the help of DOLE Bicol and LGU Manito thru its PESO office, the women makers were grouped and given training to enhance thier skills and was awarded with a DOLE Livelihood grant. This paved the way to the now labelled and branded export quality "Samod" - Product of Manito . Enhancements of the product can be attributed to the continuing support of the women members and the LGU.
