Oas, Albay - A total of P629,800.00 livelihood package, consisting of materials, small hand tools and equipment, was awarded by DOLE Bicol to 94 beneficiaries in the far flung Barangay of Balogo, Oas, Albay on March 1 which was personally graced by DOLE Bicol regional director Atty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla.
“This is what we really wanted, our livelihood program really reaching the grassroots. I want to relay to our beneficiaries here that our government is here to help alleviate poverty thru this livelihood program but they (beneficiaries) must help themselves too by sustaining their livelihood,” DOLE Bicol regional director Atty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla said.
The beneficiaries received an assortment of hand tools and equipment which corresponds to their skills such as welding, food preparation, sewing and the likes. If summed up, each beneficiary received some P6,700.00 worth of materials.
“We are very thankful for this opportunity that the DOLE has given us. With this we can start our own small business and support our family. Again thank you very much DOLE Bicol,” a middle-aged beneficiary, who does not want to be identified shared.
DOLE Albay head Ms. Ma. Ella Verano also shared to DOLE Bicol regional director Atty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla that LGU Oas has signified its willingness to avail the same project under their current poverty alleviation program.
“Our livelihood program is open to all qualified beneficiaries. However, let me reiterate that we wanted to look for those beneficiaries who really want to start a new. We are not only giving away free stuff but what we are giving here, really, is the hope for new life and new beginnings,” DOLE Bicol regional director Atty. Ma. Karina Perida-Trayvilla ended.
