DOLE Bicol conducts orientation on Batas Kasambahay

 

Legazpi City – As the lead agency in ensuring protection for domestic helpers through the Kasambahay Law, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region V – Bicol thru its Masbate Provincial Field Office conducted an orientation cum forum on Batas Kasambahay (Domestic Workers Act - Republic Act 10361 - An Act Instituting Policies for the Protection and Welfare of Domestic Workers) to 44 domester helpers in Masbate last June 28, 2018 at Barangay Espinosa, Masbate City.

The orientation aimed to provide learning opportunities for personal growth and development of domesteic helpers “kasambahay” through learning sessions.

According to OIC Regional Director Rovelinda dela Rosa, the knowledge and skills gained from the activity will enhance work performance, bring out employers’ trust and respect for kasambahay as dignified workers and thereby contribute to better working relationship.

DOLE RO5 also informed the participants on kasambahay minimum wage and other benefits they are entitled with.

Among the government agencies that discussed social protection benefits include Social Security System (SSS), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), PhilHealth and Pag-ibig. Mr. Arnold Jan Dela Cruz of TESDA talked about Life Skills Training Program and Ms. Marineil R. Camacho of SSS discussed the SSS enrollment and benefits.

Other resource persons were Ms. Janice Luzong of Pag-ibig and Ms. Rhoda Ial L. Amaro of PhilHealth who elaborated Pag-ibig and PhilHealth benefits, respectively.

Said discussion was followed by a forum wherein clarifications were made on issues related to skills training availment, social services, kasambahay monetary benefits.

One of the particpants in the said orientation cum forum was Elena Espinosa of Barangay Espinosa, Masbate City who is a domestic helper and a beneficiary of 4Ps.

 "Ngpapasalamat po kami sa paghimo sani na aktibidades na gin-imbwelto nyo kami. Damo-damo po kami na naarman tungkol sa mga prebilihiyo san mga kasambahay lalo na po an pagpapaenrol sa SSS kag Pag-Ibig. May PhilHealth na po kami kay miyembro man kami san 4Ps. Salamat man po kay naimbitar an TESDA na maghatag san impormasyon tungkol mga trainings na pwede pa namon na entrahan. Kag salamat sa DOLE san pagupdate sa amon san sweldo kag iba pa na benepisyo na peding ihatag san amon na amo.  (We thank you for conducting this activity and inviting us to be part of this. We gain a lot of insights particularly the privileges of domestic helpers highlighting the SSS and Pag-ibig benefits. We are now members of PhilHealth and 4Ps beneficiaries. We also thank TESDA in providing us information on trainings that we may undertake. Also, thanks to DOLE for updating us on our salary and other benefits that we are entitled to receive," Espinosa shared.
