12,005 workers regularized in Bicol for 2019

 

Legazpi CityThe Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 5 (Bicol) announced that around 12,005 workers in the region have been regularized by employers in 2019.

 

Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales said that 6,101 workers or  50.8% were regularized due to regular inspection and result of compliance orders by the Department, while 5,904 or 49.17% were regularized due to voluntary commitments of employers.

 

“Nagpapakita lamang na malaking porsiyento ng na inspeksyong establisyimento ang sumusunod sa patakaran ng ating ahensya,” said RD Gonzales.

DOLE-Bicol recorded 491 establishments in all provinces of Bicol that regularized their workers from January to December 2019. At least 294 companies regularized their employees upon visit by the agency’s inspectors, while 197 establishments did it voluntarily.

“This is part of the 10-point agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte and Labor Secretary Bello in response to end “Endo” and the need for security of tenure,” RD Gonzales said.

 “We want to stop the practice of illegal contractualization by means of promoting voluntary regularization of workers in Bicol as our developmental approach/ strategy that we employ in the region in response to government’s call to end contractualization,” he continued.

Apart from this, the Labor department conducts routine inspections, in which they evaluate private establishments’ compliance with labor laws and social legislation through a prescribed Inspection Checklist.

Among the private companies in the region that regularized workers this quarter Cocosor, Inc.with 624 employees; Orsit Manpower Services Inc./Puregold Diversion ( Diversion Road Naga City), 371; Masbate Medical Mission Group Hospital Service Cooperative., 365; Jericho Security & Investigation Service, 270 and; Albay Power and Energy Corp.( W.
