DOLE Bicol reminds employers of pay rules

Legazpi City – Workers who will be on duty during the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, a special non-working holiday, shall receive proper payment of wages, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday.

In an advisory, DOLE said those who will report for work on February 25 are entitled to an additional 30% of their basic wage in the first eight hours.

"Their basic wage shall be multiplied by 130 percent plus COLA... If they work in excess of eight hours, they will be paid an additional 30 percent on their hourly rate," it said.

The "no work, no pay" principle, however, shall apply if an employee chooses to take the holiday off "unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special day."

Meanwhile, should the special non-working holiday fall on the worker's rest day, the employee shall receive an additional 50% of their basic wage on the first eight hours of work. An additional 30% of their hourly rate shall also be paid for his or her overtime work./ISO PR Code:2020_gud_Feb_24_ DOLE Bicol reminds employers of pay rules for Feb. 25 special non-working holiday
