Displaced trike drivers receive wages from DOLE TUPAD

Daet, Camarines Norte – Eighty-two (82) displaced tricycle drivers from 21 barangays in selected municipalities of Camarines Norte received their wages from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its Camarines Norte Provincial Field Office last Friday.

During the 10-day period, they performed sanitation work of their dwellings and immediate vicinity in Daet, Basud, Mercedes, Talisay and San Lorenzo Ruiz, which is a DOLE project under its Tulong Panghanap-buhay sa ating Disadavantaged/ Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. Initially, these beneficiaries were among those applicants who were not accommodated under the TUPAD #BKBK Program as funds had been used up.

According to Ms. Renalyn Alano, Camarines Norte Livelihood Program focal, the income of drivers has been severely affected because they can only operate at 50% percent capacity during the implementation of community quarantine.

“This left them with a meager income which was not enough to make both ends meet,” said Alano.

Luckily, with the implementation of the TUPAD Post-COVID, they have been hired as TUPAD workers and were eligible for emergency employment that entitles them to a wage of P310 per day or equivalent to P3,100 for ten (10) days.

“Malaking tulong po ang ayudang hatid ng DOLE para sa aming mga tricycle drivers na sobra pong hirap sa kasalukuyan dahil isang pasahero lamang ang pinapayagang maisakay.” Higit kailanman naniniwala po kami na tunay ang inyong hangaring itaguyod ang kapakanan naming maliliit na manggagawa. Maraming, maraming salamat po,” said  Mr. Lorenzo D. Cuerdo, president of the Central Plaza Mall Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (CPTODA) which had the MOST number of member-recipients of the program.

DOLE Camarines Norte distributed reference numbers to TUPAD beneficiaries for the payment of wages which were coursed through M. Lhuillier. As proof of receipt, beneficiaries signed in their names in the payroll.

TUPAD is a community-based program/assistance that provides temporary employment for workers from the informal sector who are displaced and affected by the ECQ.

Qualified applicants are the following informal workers such as kasambahays or helpers, jeepney drivers, Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers, Angkas drivers or from similar ride-hailing app, carinderia owners, vendors, dishwashers., etc.

To become part of TUPAD, the informal worker must go to the Barangay Hall or the municipality’s Public Employment Office and ask to be included in the beneficiary list under TUPAD. It is recommended to do this through a group representative.

Moreover, the informal worker can also apply individually by sending an email to regional DOLE office based on the area. DOLE will verify the details from LGU./ISO PR Code:2020_gud_September_8_ Displaced trike drivers receive wages from DOLE TUPAD
