DOLE Bicol provides emergency employment to Virac, Catanduanes

Virac, Catanduanes (November 9, 2020) - DOLE Bicol RD Joel M. Gonzales and PFO Catanduanes Rosemarie Cleofe paid a courtesy visit to LGU Virac Mayor Sinforoso M. Sarmiento, Jr. at the Office of the Mayor in Virac, Catanduanes, following the super typhoon that wrought havoc in the island-province last November 1.

As committed by DOLE, it will provide emergency employment to 5,000 qualified workers who have been affected and displaced in the informal sector

In Virac, there were 348 beneficiaries who received TUPAD wages.

Under DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), each beneficiary will receive P310 per day or a total of P5,000 for the 16-day cleanup drive.

Moreover, DOLE Bicol’s augmentation team helped implement TUPAD works in the province to expedite payouts of cash to workers.

The rapid profiling of beneficiaries is ongoing in the different towns of Catanduanes.

Catanduanes was among the provinces, which suffered the most devastation from super typhoon Rolly. The typhoon destroyed 10,000 to 15,000 homes made from light materials, the seaport, and 80 percent of the electric posts in Catanduanes.

TUPAD is a short-term emergency employment program of the DoLE to mitigate the impact of calamities, disasters, and epidemics on workers in the informal economy.
