1,490 GIP interns in Sorsogon receive stipend
Sorsogon – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol led by Regional Director Ma. Zenaida A. Angara-Campita CESO III, cheerfully facilitated the Government Internship Program (GIP) pay-out benefitting 1,490 interns in Sorsogon last August 9 to 16, 2021 for July 1-15 cut-off.
A total amount of Php5,086,498.15 was allocated by DOLE Bicol during the pay-out of the first batch of Sorsogon young workers under GIP.
GIP is a component of KABATAAN 2000 under Executive Order (EO) no. 139 s. 1993, and DOLE Administrative Order No. 260-15, which aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers to serve general public in government agencies or entities projects and programs at the national and local level.
DOLE Bicol had given a duration of 6 months or 132 days contract per beneficiary hoping to provide them an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service especially the poor and indigent young workers.
DOLE Bicol's main goal is to directly increase the growth and potential of young workers through massive employment generation and substantial poverty reduction. The salaries of interns intended to address the financial needs of their family as whole at this point in time.
Christine D. Dizon, a 22-year-old intern from Pilar, Sorsogon, extended gratitude for being chosen as one of the lucky DOLE-GIP beneficiaries. “I want to extend my warm gratitude to DOLE-GIP for the opportunity they had given me. Being chosen as a beneficiary gave me the chance to share my talents and skills. Also, I was able to support my family with our basic needs through the stipend provided. As the eldest, this GIP experience allows me to carry out my responsibility to help and provide for my family.” she said.
RD Campita expressed her support to interns to attract the best of the best who wants to pursue a career in government service, particularly in the field and disciplines related to labor and employment. They assisted in fast tracking the implementation and monitoring of DOLE programs and projects related to social protection and employment facilitation.
“Every GIP’s must step up of the ladder and be the best version of themselves to become more productive. It is our goal not just to increase employment stability amongst poor young workers but also to boost their hidden potential, shaping them to pursue a career in government service.” RD Campita added. ###
