Displaced drivers, truck mechanics claim over 350k separation pay thru settlement

Camalig, Albay — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) continues to give alternatives and solutions to those workers who face problems in their workplace.

In the pursuit of settling employer-employee relation issues, some 16 drivers of Casa Minerals in Palanog, Camalig, Albay received their separation pays from the said company last Thursday, February 24, 2022. This was made possible through the Single-Entry Approach (SEnA) which aims to provide a speedy, impartial, inexpensive and accessible settlement procedure for all issues and complaints between the employer and the employee.

DOLE Bicol thru its Albay Provincial Field Office together with SEnA focal William B. Buendia Jr., facilitated the distribution of monetary benefits from the unclaimed separation pays of the said workers amounting to P352,250.00, which is just 50% of the total amount as an initial payment to affected workers.

“The separation pay benefitted 16 drivers and truck mechanics of Casa Minerals in Palanog, Camalig, Albay, amounting to a 352,250.00 is just 50% of its total, and the rest will be paid by the end of the month,” SEnA Focal and SR. LEO, William B. Buendia Jr. said.

Rey Mortega, one of the complainants, expressed how thankful he was after receiving at least half of his separation pay; however, he is still expecting to receive the rest of the payment soon as he needs it so much for his family’s expenses.

“Salamat sa DOLE kahit papano natupad ang kasunduan, pero sana mabayaran kami ng 100% sa katapusan kasi 50% pa lang ang nabibigay sa amin, kailangan rin kasi naming yung halaga ng perang makukuha pa naming para sa mga pangangailangan at gastusin ng pamilya sa araw-araw.” Mortega said.

Meanwhile, DOLE Regional Director Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita felt overjoyed hearing about this news, “This is an indication that SEnA is really of great help to the workers. Masaya ako na may mga ganitong tulong tayo na naibibigay sa ating mga kababayan.”

DOLE Bicol will continue to help aggrieved workers through its flagship program SEnA, an administrative approach to provide a speedy, impartial, inexpensive, and accessible settlement procedure of all labor issues or conflicts to prevent them from ripening into full-blown disputes or actual labor cases.

Employees or employers who encounter any labor related issue may file a complaint thru SEnA Program at the nearest DOLE Provincial Field Office or apply thru E-SEnA at sena.dole.gov.ph. ###
