Giving Hope to At-Risk Bicolano Youth thru JobStart Program

Legazpi City, Albay – Youth exposed to poverty and other vulnerable situations, experience a wide variety of risk factors, from health concerns to difficulties at school. Some are unable to finish school and encounter challenges in seeking a job. But through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE’s) JobStart Philippines Program, at-risk youth are given opportunities to enhance their employability through full-cycle employment facilitation services.

Around 62 youth from Legazpi City completed the DOLE’s JobStart Philippines Program’s 10-day Life Skills Training (JSP LST) with the aid of the City Government of Legazpi on September 14, 2022 at Proxy by The Oriental Albay.

JSP LST, the first of the three-phase full-cycle employment facilitation services, significantly increases young workers’ employability by reducing their job-search period through training. Under the LST, personal competencies, work habits, job hunting, financial literacy, health and well-being, and networking are cultivated through the use of 37 training modules to prepare JobStart trainees in their quest for skills and job matching.

DOLE Bicol Regional Director Ma. Zenaida A. Angara-Campita graced the occasion and awarded the Certificates of Recognition to two completers who also belongs to the top three LST graduates. Certificates of Completion were also received by 61 Life Skills trainees for their perfect attendance. Each completer will be given training and Internet allowance in the amount of ?3,200.00.

RD Campita encouraged the graduates to complete the three cycles of JobStart Program: (1) the LST, (2) technical training and (3) internship.

“Kapag nakumpleto niyo ‘yung cycle, hindi na kayo malalagay dun lang sa frontline or ‘yung mga starters, kasi you possess that qualification. You are certified.

PESO Legazpi Manager Diosdado R. Rañeses, who represented Legazpi City Mayor Carmen Geraldine Rosal, emphasized that the success of the program vests in the hands of the youth beneficiaries.

Let us all be inspired with the objective of JobStart Philippines Program”, Rañeses said.

“I would like to thank DOLE and PESO Legazpi na nag guide sa amin sa Life Skills Training.

The event was capped by the conduct of job matching through interviews/screening in preparation for the completers’ upcoming Technical Training wherein 29 beneficiaries were enlisted by Sunwest Construction and Development Corporation, 20 by MAKAPA Corporation, and 12 by Thalana Grill Corporation.

DOLE's JobStart Philippines aims to provide life skills training with one-on-one coaching, technical training, and internship for unemployed out-of-school youth aged 18 to 24 years old.
