Sorsogon - Improving the livelihood opportunities of locals is an effective way to lift them out of poverty. That is why the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol strengthens its programs that contribute to poverty reduction through the promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises.
Through its Sorsogon Provincial Office, at least 44 economically displaced residents of Bulan, Sorsogon received their kabuhayan starter kits under the DOLE - Integrated Livelihood Program worth PhP927,770.00, which consist of various tools, equipment, and materials to jumpstart their chosen livelihood. This project serves as a post-covid recovery assistance to the informal sector heavily affected by the economic recession brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The individual economic endeavors identified are significant and are worthy to be realized since this is where these beneficiaries can uplift their living conditions through processing native delicacies (pili, tablea, rice coffee), milk tea vending, root crop or vegetable growing, vulcanizing, electronics servicing, tailoring/sewing, handicraft making, plumbing, and car washing.
The beneficiaries also underwent skills training on good manufacturing practices, basic business management, simple bookkeeping, and basic occupational safety and health to improve their skills and prepare them for their business undertakings.
61-year-old, Yolanda Betis, a kakanin vendor added, “Maraming, maraming salamat sa mga nagbigay samin ng tulong, daghanon na danon ini saamo sa pagbuhay, hindi namin ito makakalimutan”
The awarding ceremony was graced by PESO Manager Anilin Diaz, Livelihood Dev’t Specialist Mark Angelo Duana, Livelihood Focal Mark Francis Llaneta and Municipal Mayor Romeo Gordola who extended his warmest gratitude to the DOLE for this livelihood assistance intended to his constituents.
“Lubos kaming nagpapasalamat sa ibinigay ng DOLE na mga kagamitan para sa aming mga kababayan dahil napakalaking bagay nito para makatulong sa kanilang hinahangad na hanapbuhay. Hinihingi ko lang na sana’y lubos itong pag-ingatan at pahalagahan dahil ito ay malaking bagay na katulong niyo sa inyong hanapbuhay,” Mayor Gordola emphasized in his message to the beneficiaries during the awarding ceremony of the livelihood kits.
The Kabuhayan Starter Kits Projects is a component of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) that aims to assist the informal sector or marginalized self-employed workers with insufficient income.
