Legazpi City, Albay - In the pursuit of the vision of a world where all children fully enjoy their rights and lead a life of dignity, the EDUCO Philippines and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol strengthened its partnership on child protection advocacies and projects.
Through Project ‘SAGIP’ (Strengthening Accountability in Governance towards Ending Child Labor by Promoting Rights and Providing Socio-Economic Support), DOLE Bicol continues its collaboration with EDUCO to address the issue on child labor in covered provinces of Sorsogon, Albay, and Catanduanes, in support to the government's campaign on "Isang Milyong Batang Malaya by 2025".
TSSD Chief Marilyn Luzuriaga and Ms. Ma. Cecilia A. Mangampo, LEO III, CLPEP Regional Focal Person introduced the status of the areas in Bicol covered by the Child Labor program which are presently being monitored by the DOLE Regional Office to be given appropriate interventions.
On the other hand, Ms. Myra Mangampo of Educo Philippines presented their child-led activities for the year 2023. She cited that their organization is profiling child laborers which are also currently monitored for assistance and interventions.
Mangampo added that they also provide livelihood support and training for the parents of the child laborers. Likewise, they practice the referral system to cater to the proposed interventions for the beneficiaries of Project Sagip.
As part of the continued collaboration with the partner agencies and stakeholders, EDUCO Philippines is one of the partners that gives support to the Child-led activities of the DOLE. A regular meeting was proposed for regular monitoring of the Child Laborers with EDUCO and other partners. Parents of the child laborers profiled by EDUCO will be referred to the TUPAD Program, Livelihood Program, and other programs and services of DOLE as interventions to be provided.
